Last week, we took the kids and grandparents bowling at the Boardwalk Bowl. If you’ve never taken your kids bowling and watched as they heave the ball with all their might only to have it roll at a snail’s pace down the aisle, then grab a beer from the bar, sit back, and be prepared for time to stand still.
Actually, bowling as a family is A LOT of fun! Everyone cheers each other on, grown-ups let loose with silly rituals and celebration dances, and the kids look so darn cute in bowling shoes! Bowling is also a great way to set examples for the kids on patience, taking turns, encouraging each other, laughing at yourself after a gutter ball or two, and not caring in the end about winning or losing.

Bowling can turn into a pricey event, so take advantage when there’s a deal. Right now, at the Boardwalk Bowl in Santa Cruz, everyone who brings in a can of food can bowl a game for free (there is still a $3 shoe rental fee). This is an awesome promotion that benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County and is good thru December 31. So, take the family bowling…take them bowling!
