Family Field Trip- Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History

by Christine@TheAums on March 17, 2011 · 3 comments

A break in the rain allowed us to venture out today to this cute little gem of a museum in Santa Cruz. My kids like to call it the “Big Whale Museum” thanks to this life-size gray whale model out front- perfect for climbing and sliding down!

I’m glad they don’t call it anything based on this statue which also lives on the museum grounds:

That little plaque does not describe how this guy became a ‘member’ *ahem* of the museum.

For its small size, the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is packed with enough to make kids linger and want to return again and again, which is why we have a membership. The dinosaur dig and touch pool are great hands-on displays.

And when everyone’s done learning about local history, flora, and fauna, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump across the street to Seabright Beach, one of our family favorites!

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is worth a rainy or sunny day trip and it’s affordable- kids under 18 are free and a parking permit is provided.
