The latest iVoices report comes from Brandi at Mama Knows It All. Tough Topic: Would you give your teens condoms? Thankfully, I have years to figure this one out. In the meantime, it’s all about teaching family values and nurturing the self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth of my four Aumies. It’s about building a relationship based on mutual trust and love. It’s about open and honest communication that may take me out of my comfort zone, but so be it. I want to give my children the security of knowing they can come to me for anything. That’s all easy to say now…check back with me in about 6 years about those condoms!

I buy my teenager condoms. Once he had a serious girlfriend, I made sure there were condoms in the house. I buy his toothpaste, tp, shampoo, underwear, deodorant, kleenex, cough syrup, bandaids, etc. You bet I also buy the condoms.
Laura, my oldest is 6 and it's so hard to imagine the day I buy him condoms, but it's definitely better to be safe than sorry in this situation. Was it an easy decision for you? Did you talk to him about it? Does he let you know when he's running low?
You are so right, Christine, that it is about creating a safe space to communicate, as well as to let teach (and show) them about loving, respectful relationships.
Laura, I am sure your son appreciates being able to come to you instead of having to try to figure it out on his own!
