I just peeked at the date of my last post and well, if I don’t post today, I will not meet my 2012 blogging goal of posting once a week…and it’s only the first week of January!!!
It’s not for lack of ideas, that’s for sure. I have rough drafts and list upon list of possible topics lying around. I know it’s old, but lack of time is a very real excuse. And so is abundance of laundry. Life happens, right?!
Even though I made peace with my infrequent posting by the end of last year, I still resolved to try harder this time around. So, I’m crossing two things off my list today: 1)Publish my weekly post and 2)Introduce a meme!
Yes, I’ve always wanted to host a meme and have a linky. Wow, my vocab sure has evolved in the last year. The thing about my meme, is that it’s kind of the opposite of what’s currently out there. I don’t expect to see the same faces weekly (I won’t complain if I do!) I don’t even expect to need this meme weekly (better safe than sorry!)
So, allow me to introduce my Un-meme. Drum roll please…
What’s so great about the Un-meme is that you can tell your readers you’re taking a break and let us know what you’ll be doing instead. I know. Doesn’t make sense to blog about what you’ll be doing instead of actually blogging. But sometimes it helps to just write a note to say, “Hey, I’m overwhelmed this week.” Or, “Today is family/laundry/bill paying/alloftheabove day.” Or, “I have major deadlines so the blog’ll have to wait indefinitely.”
The point is not for it to be a long post, but a quick “Taking a break, be back soon!” Maybe leave us a few of your favorite posts to read while you’re gone. Or refer us to your favorite memes in the memetime meantime. Really, the possibilities are endless!
Sometimes your break will be one day (HA!). Sometimes it will be a week or heck, the entire month! Just paste the Un-meme badge in your post (code’s in the sidebar), link up, and we’ll know you’re there in spirit. You’ll get traffic and comments because we have your online back!
Let the Un-meme be there for you when you can’t be there for your blog.
The writing prompt will always remain the same: What else is going on in your life besides blogging?
I still have kinks to work out but you can always check out the hashtag #unmeme for the latest!
So, I’ll go first.
I haven’t been taking a total break from blogging this week, but using my free time to create an editorial calendar and research making updates on WordPress. I still feel so clueless with WordPress! I updated my blog badge in the sidebar to hopefully be more memorable although it still doesn’t help with pronunciation, but I like it! What do you think? I’m also forcing myself to learn the ropes of other social media accounts that I’ve created, but done little with…like my Facebook fan page, Pinterest, Foursquare, etc. And I’m really enjoying reading so many awesome posts by bloggers everywhere who’ve stepped up their game and writing for the new year. I can’t wait to join the fun! On the home front, I’m recovering from the holidays and a week and a half of 4 sick kids. Nuff said.
If you’re needing a little bloggy break, link up…guilt free!

This is pretty brilliant. I have been a bad blogger too but I miss reading you so write more!
I’m trying so hard to arrange my life to be able to write more! This un-meme is just buying me some time. Thank you so much for your encouragement and please link up when it’s the right time!
This is a different idea. Coolness. Yes I said it coolness.
Haha! I will take coolness as a compliment any day…thank you!
Hey, this is a great idea!!
P.S. I LOVE Pinterest!!! I’m on there way more than I should be.
Thanks, Jen! You’re on top of it, but if you ever need a break, you know where to find me
Oh, and I’m following you on Pinterest now!
I love this. I’m trying to be the first person to link up this morning!
Brandi, thank you for being the first one ever to link up with the un-meme!!
For the first time ever I took a break from blogging over Christmas break. It was nice. I’m sure many people will like this meme.
You certainly deserved a break! Glad you gave yourself one. And if you ever need one again…you know where to find me
You are a genius! Love the unmeme! Wish I could stay away form the blog long enough. Might check myself into “rehab” and link up
Or you could make a list based on it: Top 10 Ways to Reduce Blog Stress??
I love this! I think it’s so necessary to give ourselves permission to have a blogging break every now and then, so a meme is the perfect way to do that, “guilt-free.” I mean because even though you aren’t blogging, you are… kind of. I like that.
Thanks, Jessica! You described the un-meme perfectly and it is here for you when you kind of want a break
Haha…. well, I guess they did work, but didn’t show up right away. Oops
That’s okay…happened to me before too
Now you’re a linkup pro!
