Last week, thanks to inspiration from Brandi at Mama Knows It All, our homeschooling curriculum revolved around Martin Luther King, Jr. and his message of peace. After listening to his speech and many talks around the dinner table, here’s what the Aumies had to say:
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day everyone helps each other. At first, a lot of white people didn’t want there to be a holiday, but the president signed in that there should be one. Martin Luther King, Jr. was gonna follow his papa’s footsteps because one day they walked into a shoe store and a white person wouldn’t let them sit down. He said his words really well, really strong, and good. We celebrate him because he loved his enemies. He taught that peace is better than violence. He helped the world to make it more beautiful.
We made a dream mobile to hang over their beds. These are their dreams:
I have a dream…
that one day, no one would fight and everyone would be peaceful.
that we can help everybody.
that we can help people that are poor, that don’t have any homes.
to keep the park clean.
that one day everybody would love each other.
that the whole world didn’t have any war.
that everyone would have food.
that no one would kill animals to eat.
that everyone could get enough money to at least rent a house.
that countries would never have war.
that we shouldn’t fight. Instead we should be peaceful and play together.
that everyone has a doggy! (that’s the 2 year old’s dream)
