What many folks don’t know is that
those are actually my legs on the cover I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy to review and, lo and behold, my blurb made it into her book!
If you’re looking for a funny book for yourself, your mom, your best friend, give them a copy of Blacklisted and, perhaps, a bottle (or box) of wine. You can read my full review below.
As a homeschooling mom with absolutely no PTA experience, I think Lela Davidson is pretty clever. In Blacklisted from the PTA, she has succeeded in writing a universal collection of short personal stories that are shockingly honest! The shocking part is she dares to reveal what we are all thinking and feeling as we wake up to face another day of motherhood ups and downs.
This comes as no surprise. As the former host of the weekly Parenting Squad twitter chats, Lela managed to choose hot topics, ask frank questions, and make that one hour of my week something I look forward to with relish, and sometimes reckless abandon. Twitter’ll do that to you! Through her honesty, she promotes an open dialogue and is always there with a comforting laugh and anecdote!
Blacklisted from the PTA is arranged like life. It starts with giving birth and ends with the “Me Time” that usually comes last on our To-Do lists. In between we get embarrassing, awkward, squirm in your seat, watery-eyes-hilarious confirmation that we are not alone. Have to give the talk about the birds and the bees? Need to make a costume for the school play? Are you fantasizing about having one more baby? Does your husband sleep through it all? There are also more than enough tender moments to remind us all how very worth it is to give up sleep, spontaneous
sexanything, fill in the blank! The only thing missing are pictures…I would love to see the infamous turkey costume or heck, how about a centerfold of the lawn boy!
The fact that each story is a juicy 5 minute confession is so addicting, I’ll admit I squeezed in “just one more,” one too many times. In Blacklisted From the PTA, Lela Davidson presents the thoughts you think, but somehow, writing them down is pure genius…and pretty damn funny.
Self-blacklisted, home-schooling, tofu-eating, cloth-diapering West Coast mother of 4 (this makes tons of sense when you read the book)
