Love with Food: A Giveaway!

by Christine@TheAums on August 25, 2012 · 25 comments

Before I attended my first Blogher conference earlier this month, I was under the impression that I’d be networking with an assortment of brands and bringing home tons of swag.

But when I arrived and looked over the list of roughly 100 sponsors, there were exactly two that piqued my interest.

One was Hot Wheels, in honor of my son who has been fascinated with little cars since birth, and the other was Love with Food.

Love With Food - Discover Great Food for a Great Cause

What’s not to love?

Love with Food is a subscription service that sends you a box of unique gourmet foods every month. Each box is priced at ten dollars and you can subscribe for one, three, six or twelve months. Here is what the August box contained:

Skinny Dipping Pretzels, Key Lime with Ginger Mustard, Vegan Lemon Cookie, Vegan Peanut Buter Cookie, Dried Montmorency Cherries, Coconut Toffee Peanuts, Ginger Caramel Candy, Tangerine Glee Gum, and love, of course.

The cool thing is, for every box purchased a meal is donated to help end child hunger. To date, Love with Food has donated over 8,000 meals!

Your goodies arrive in this snazzy red box which has great repurposing potential!

When I received a complimentary August box, I brainstormed many ideas for how to enjoy it and most of them involved giving it as a gift. Throughout the year I am always looking for reasonably-priced gifts that I can give as thank yous, get well soons, and just becauses. Especially with the holiday season fast approaching, I think these boxes would make a great gift for foodies, teachers, in-laws, neighbors, and folks that you have no idea what to get. And the best part is that every purchase supports a good cause, so it’s a win-win all around.

I ended up throwing our box in my backpack to enjoy on a family hike. With thirteen of us crowded around the picnic table, everything disappeared from the box quickly, but not mindlessly. We all stopped to really taste and appreciate each product. My personal faves were the pretzels dipped in mustard and the vegan lemon cookie. Now I can go back to Love with Food’s website and order full-size versions of the products I liked.

If you’d like to give Love with Food a try, use my discount code to get $2 off your first month’s subscription: AUMSVIP. (This code must be used by 8/31/12.)

I would like to say that I’d give one of these to my children’s teachers. But I’m much more likely wait too long to eat one day and tear into it myself. It looks lovely and the idea is inspiring.

Um, I would totally eat the whole thing myself. Unless there was something I wasn’t sure I’d like and then I’d offer it to my husband like I was going to share the whole thing. I like the concept a lot though! I’m going to like them on Facebook and keep up with them.

Love with food. I think I do that to myself waaaay too much. Hence the whole “trying to be fit” thing? Remember?

I think that if I had these, I would always have them handy so I could hand it out to those homeless people holding signs at freeway exits or street corners. I don’t have to worry about funding any drinking or drug habits they might have. At least I know they won’t starve that day. Especially when they have kids with them (even though it’s probably a scam) – it seems like the right thing to do – give them food. You know?

Of course, this is all assuming my kids won’t have found these first and raided it all. *sigh* So much for ending world hunger. :)

I’d give the snacks to my son. He goes to school 2x a week and I always have a little surprise treat waiting for him in the car –he’d love to get something special like those yummy treats.

Of course I would gift this to my kids. Then celebrate with our box at a new park or adventure. This way it really does seem like I am sharing. Right?!
