A Year In Review For My Aumies

by Christine@TheAums on January 4, 2013 · 18 comments

Happy New Year to all my Aumies! I can call you that, right? Lady Gaga has Little Monsters, Justin Beiber has Beliebers, Twilight has Twihards… it makes perfect sense that The Aums has Aumies.

I’ve always wanted to do a Year in Review on my blog so I started one on New Year’s Eve, but I got majorly sidetracked when I (or rather my Facebook fans) decided I should make Chocolate Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Buttercream.

I’m sorry your screen is not Scratch ‘n’ Taste. They were so good, I ate one too many and woke up with a salted caramel hangover the next day. Of course, I subscribed to the old “hair of the dog” hangover cure and ate another for breakfast. Needless to say, salted caramel bliss is a good way to start the new year.

And reflecting…reflecting is a good way to start the year, too, especially while eating a cupcake. Without further ado:

In 2012, I introduced the “un-meme” which was a way for me to not feel guilty about not blogging posed the question, “What else is going on in your life besides blogging?” Mostly it was a way for me to learn how to host a meme, set up a linky, and create and code a badge so I consider its short lifespan a success. Who knows…maybe I’ll revive it sometime this year.

I wrote my first series on birth reflections and it included my most popular post to date: Mom’s Survival Kit- Don’t Attend a Baby Shower Without One.

I guest-blogged for 2 wonderful hosts:
Ado at The Momalog as part of her Moms I Admire series.
Greta at Gfunkified as part of her Great Expectations series…my topic was body image.

I vlogged about laundry, pancakes, and my gray hair that I refuse to dye.

I wrote about some gigantic firsts: There was my first trip to New York, which was also my first solo flight since becoming a mom and my first blogging conference.  And then we took our kids to Disneyland for the first time where I OD’d on churros.

My favorite posts are the ones that made me, and hopefully you, laugh. Like my recap on Mother’s Day and 3 ways potty talk has helped my parenting.

But I’m a sentimental mama at heart whether I’m sewing Halloween costumes for my kids or  teaching my daughter to ride a bike.

As far as homeschooling goes, I taught my kids about money, we took homeschool portraits, and we actually socialized with other kids!

I also joined forces with our local newspaper, the Santa Cruz Sentinel, which featured a profile of me as a blogger in October and introduced me to a wide variety of local bloggers I never knew existed. In fact, I finally met another mom who blogs in my hometown, Elizabeth from Motherhood: A Descent Into Madness!

Speaking of meeting bloggers in real life, in 2012 I met bloggers from near and far. Let’s see, I was stalked by The Mommy Tsunami, ran with Hungrigyrl, slept with Say it Rah-shay, ate dinner with The Momalog, had drinks with My Time As Mom and finally, hugged The Six Year Itch.

I don’t blog as often as I’d like, but everything I put out there is meant to add something positive to the world. Thank you for visiting, leaving comments when you can, and supporting my on and offline endeavors. I truly can’t wait to see who I meet this year and what 2013 has in store for me.

Aummmm…..

THOSE CUPCAKES LOOK DIVINE. Someone needs to work on scratch and sniff screens in 2013.

You’ve had a great year! But, I amjealous that Jess from MTAM had drinks with you. But, now we’ve both had drinks with her, so does that mean we’ve had drinks together? HMMM.

I’m stuck on that riddle…BUT, I would love for my 2013 year in review to include meeting you! Over drinks and salted caramel cupcakes, of course.

Thanks for all your support, Brandi!!!! Fun fact for you: In Spanish you have to add upside exclamation points to the beginning of sentences in addition to the regular ones in the end.

What a great recap!
I remember the unmeme (can I use it in a few weeks?)
I loved living vicariously through your churro obsession, and of course sleeping with you was awesome.

Hey, thank you for the shout-out! It’s been an honor to meet and know you! I hope you froze one of those cupcakes for me… No? It’s okay, you can just make them again for the next CML meeting!

You’re welcome. It was super exciting to meet you for the first time and then find out how much we have in common. Can’t make promises on the cupcakes, but I can meet at Chocolate ANYTIME.

Christine, I loved this round-up. What an exciting year. I forgot you had your first solo getaway. That’s so exciting. I enjoy reading about all your adventures – especially homeschooling 4 little ones. It’s a dream of mine to homeschool one day too.
